JAC in Koenji

中華そばJAC

JAC was on the list. JAC was supposed to be open for lunch.

JAC was closed for lunch. Nearby Jagura was also on the list.

Jagura was also closed for lunch. But it was a gorgeous autumn day, and the parks of western Tokyo were ablaze in fall colors. Not a lot of people hang out during the day at some of these minor station, and I felt like I had this massive park all to myself.

Later that day, JAC was open for dinner. It was a good day.

JAC is about as close to Tokushima-style ramen as I've had in Tokyo. A rich, meaty soup topped with stir-fried pork and a raw egg. A little bit sweet, and very savory.

The deluxe bowl comes with an extra soft boiled egg and extra meat. If you aren't concerned with cholesterol, go with the deluxe.

And add in a little shikuwasa juice. I've never, ever seen  シークヮーサー at a ramen shop. Yuzu, sure, but the extremely tart Okinawan citrus is a rare find indeed. And it was just that little extra touch that this shop needed to raise it to my new favorite Koenji spot.
