るばん (Ruban in Okuhida)

るばん

We arrived at the quaint Japanese B&B a bit early. Not a lot to do out here, hundreds of miles from civilization. Since it was lunch time, we asked the owner to recommend something. He did one better, he drove us to his favorite place. You guessed it, a ramen shop.

One of only a couple restaurants in town. Later I found out that the part time staff at this shop and the staff at the hotel are sisters.

Nepotism never tasted so good.

Ramen is universal. I admit to being spoiled in Tokyo, where inventive, gourmet bowls are common. Out here, you get the old school slurp, or you get nothing at all.

But simplicity is the draw of countryside Japan.
