A tip from one of my readers led me to a Hiroshima tantanmen pop-up in Ginza.
Let's Tantan Party!
Tokyo is lucky enough to have a lot of these antennae shops. What is an antennae shop? A place to sample and buy products from a far away prefecture, conveniently located in the middle of Tokyo. Looking for some lemons from the Seto Inland Sea? Come on down! How about some local sake? They've got it. Limited food? That too.
Apparently, soupless tantanmen is a thing in Hiroshima. So much so that they had a shironashitantanmen map, should I venture down to that part of Japan anytime soon.
Which is something I would love to do.
You see, there was potential in this bowl. Potential in plastic (I'm NOT down with the faux-stone look of these cheap bowls) that inhibited the flavor.
But for 500 yen, not a bad way to start the day.
